We're used to reviewing slots but today we're going to change it up a little bit and give a close look at Banana Jones, a specialty game from leading developer RealTime Gaming - RTG. Specialty games are usually hit and miss, but with Banana Jones, RTG has a winner on their hands. The graphics and animations are well made and the overall presentation of Banana Jones keeps players engaged. The Banana Jones character is well designed and a fun way into the game - you play as Banana Jones. The game looks and sounds good, but can players except Banana Jones to lead them to some truly epic wins? Let's find out…

How to play Banana Jones

Since Banana Jones isn't a slot, we have no reels or paylines to breakdown. Instead, this game plays like a typical board game. First, players will choose their bet size. They are $0.20, $0.50, $1, $2 and $5 is the maximum bet size.

After selecting their bet size, players are taken to the main game. They'll see a number lily-pads spread out leading to an ancient temple. Some of these lily-pads have symbols on them which we'll detail below.

Players start out with 5 turns. These are simply two dice being rolled. Whatever the combination equals is how many spaces Banana Jones will move. The goal is to reach the temple at the end of the board before you turns are over.

Banana Jones features

Some of the board pieces have different symbols atop them and if Banana Jones lands on them, bring different results.

  • Dice lily-pad

There are two of these on the board and if Banana Jones lands on this symbol, the player is rewarded with one extra roll.

  • Gems

There are a total of 9 gems laid out on the board and landing on and collecting a certain amount means some extra wins. If a player collects THREE gems they are rewarded with 1x their bet size. FOUR gems equals 4x the bet size. And FIVE gems gives players 40x their bet size.

  • Treasure Wheel

There are 7 treasure wheels on the board, each represented by the monkey head sculpture with blue eyes. If Banana Jones lands on one of those the players is given one spin of the treasure wheel where they can win up to 50x their bet size.

  • Vines

Vines are useful because if Banana Jones lands on one, he climbs to the top of it and advances more spaces. If a player lands on TWO vines they are rewarded with 1x their bet size. THREE vines and the player is rewarded with 25x their bet size.

  • Snakes

Snakes are the opposite of vines. If Banana Jones lands on the head of a snake he slides all the way back down to the tail. But it's not all bad. Landing on TWO snakes gives players 0.5x their bet size. THREE or FOUR snakes give players 5x their bet size.

  • Crystal Banana Quest

If a player successful gets Banana Jones to the end of the board before their spins are over they enter the tomb and start the Crystal Banana Quest. Here, players will see numerous treasure chests and five crystal fruits: Plum, Apple, Banana, Grape and Pear.

The player then chooses treasure chests which reveal one of the crystal fruits inside. Once a player uncovers three of the same fruit they are awarded with the corresponding prize.

To Play Or Not To Play

That is the question. And the answer is… maybe if you need a break from slots. Banana Jones is a fun enough game that looks and sounds nice, but the low bet sizes really don't lend to much excitement. The crystal banana quest feature has the chance to pay out huge, but only if a player can successful pick 3 bananas out of the chests. So, if you have a couple extra bucks in the bankroll there's nothing wrong with giving Banana Jones a couple rolls of the dice. Who knows, you could discover some wins after all!
